The Energy of Intuition

~ Discovering & Defending My Truth ~

The word Intuition (1400-50, from the Latin word, intuit(us,) meaning to gaze at, to contemplate) is defined as “a fact or truth perceived by quick and keen insight or direct perception; a philosophy; an immediate cognition of an object not inferred or determined by a previous cognition of the same object; an object or truth so discerned; pure, untaught, non inferential knowledge.”

Synonyms are: clairvoyance, discernment, divination, ESP, feeling, foreknowledge, gut reaction, hunch, innate knowledge, inspiration, instinct, penetration, perception, premonition, presentiment, second sight, sixth sense.

In the modern, “civilized” culture, why such a dirty word? Liable of suspect, scrutiny, jest? I would imagine it has always been a dirty word among some circles, human nature hasn’t changed that much. But I feel I must come to the defense of such a noble and innate trait…for it defends, protects and guides us if we let it. Animals, including us, can tap into this instinct and use it for our very survival if necessary. The difference between other animals and ourselves is that we have a mind that can also rationalize, quickly talking us out of our gut reactions, and we can ridicule ourselves and others for giving into such follies…

People often don’t trust what they can’t see or explain, but isn’t most of our existence that way? Even science and language are mere manifestations of us trying to describe the indescribable in some fabricated way that we’ve agreed upon and called “language.” Words and ideas are based on conceptualizations of our own minds and cultural influences. Who’s to say what reality is and/or isn’t? Philosophers have long posed the idea that maybe the dream state is the true, or at least an equal, reality. Meditators and realized souls say reality on this plane is all an illusion of sorts….

“I shall not commit the fashionable stupidity of regarding everything I cannot explain as a fraud.” ~ Carl Jung

I myself am a fan of whatever works. I’m glad I have a rational, conscious, functional brain and I’m glad I have my intuition to help guide it. The left brain (logical, sequential, rational, analytical, objective, looks at parts) and the right brain (random, intuitive, holistic, synthesizing, subjective, looks at wholes), keep each other in check. I used to be a person who relied primarily on logic. After having been lopsided for so long, through circumstance, I was forced to swing the other way towards my intuitive side -when I got divorced, tried to find my own way (to myself), and started doing the Energetic Bodywork I now do.

My Polarity Therapy teacher at the time could not provide the detailed explanations of theories that I was used to, and I wasn’t able to mentally grasp the subtlety of Polarity Therapy anyway. The more I tried to think about it, the harder it was. (I still have a hard time with that. I just know from experience that it is as real as it gets. I may not fully understand it, but I know how to successfully access it and deal with it, and I’m convinced that it works.)

“Up to the Twentieth Century, reality was everything humans could touch, smell, see, and hear. Since the initial publication of the chart of the electromagnetic spectrum, humans have learned what they can touch, smell, see, and hear, is less than on-millionth of reality.” ~ Albert Einstein

When I finally let go, and my right brain got out of the way, I started to get much better results with the bodywork (and my life). When I didn’t listen to my intuitive voice, things didn’t turn out as well. For instance, I had to learn to be careful when working with someone else’s energy, that I didn’t alter it in a way that wasn’t right for them at the time, such as taking away their compensation before they had the resources to deal with what lay underneath, the real cause of their pain.

As a practitioner, your feeling to work on a certain area may be correct and the client probably feels the block there too and insists that you work on it. Indeed, that spot likely needs work, but this may not be the appropriate time to do it. In cases like this, I recommend listening to your intuition and following it, REGARDLESS. It most likely will come up again for work when the timing is right for them. Both you and your client will have to trust the innate intelligence of their energetic system, your ability to decipher that information, and to trust their healing process as it uniquely unfolds. This process cannot be forced, at least not with good results.

This work is definitely about technique, knowledge, experience and intention, but all of that wouldn’t be of much practical use without my intuition. Discovering my own truth, my intuition, was like discovering a hidden ally and now I readily come to its defense. This work and my clients have been my biggest teachers, along with my mentor Dr. Richard Metz.

I feel like one of my most important goals is to help others tap into their own intuition, to trust it, to let it help them. I think intuition is our higher God-self talking to us. Who couldn’t use that kind of help? Anyway, my intuition comes into play when I am working on my clients and reading their subtle energy fields. Intuition plays a strong part in what Dr. Metz calls “Energy Resonance Scanning,” which is actually the basis of the therapy he developed based on the Fundamental Field of Life Energy. I started by using a pendulum to scan the energy fields, now I use my hand or my mind’s eye to feel the resonance. It is not so hocus-pocus as people think. Anyone can do it with intention, practice, proper framework for asking questions (methodological and literal is best), trust, and confidence. And I find it consistently working, based on results, and client feedback.

With time and attention you can learn to do this for yourself. It may be like other talents though, some people are born with a gift and others may have to work harder to get there, and it may not come as easily. It takes daily practice and exercising that muscle! The less you try to control the outcome, the more confident you become, the more you trust, the more the intuitive process flows. Once you get there, you’ll never go back to being lopsided! At least I didn’t, nor do I want to. 🙂 In case you didn’t notice, the bottom line here seems to be TRUST. 🙂

Per Dr. Metz on this Topic:

Intuition is more certain and spontaneous, a deeper level of knowing that isn’t so constricted by conceptual framework.

Energy Resonance Scanning is defined as “a mindful use of one’s ‘felt sense’ in order to tune-in to the various energy frequencies of people, places or things.” Scanning is getting information within a specified conceptual framework and then getting the best answer within that context. You are trying to determine which concept resonates with the person’s energy.

Intuition includes Energy Resonance Scanning, but not all scanning is intuition. However, scanning and intuition can interact. You can use your intuition to initiate a scan and/or what to scan for. Or, you can use your scan to alert and guide you as to the need for getting an intuitive message, and what about. Intuition is global and scanning is a just a part of it.

Intuition is comprised of:

  • Higher Knowing – Certain and Spontaneous (i.e., Inner Voice)
  • Energy Resonance – Contextual “Tuning-In” (i.e., “Felt Sense”)
  • Psychic Phenomena – Non-Physical Information (i.e., Visions, “Seeing”)
  • Subliminal Processing of Sensory Information – Feeling the Vibe (i.e., Body Language)
  • Synchronous Resonance – “Chance” Harmony on Subtle Level (i.e., Use of Oracles)

Intuition is a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it gets!! And that’s the truth! 🙂
